Mental Health Training and Education

We provide access to public mental health training and education to ensure individuals have common understanding, shared knowledge and skills for prevention and early intervention responses.

Our training programs offer immediate responses and are far reaching with intention and focus to reduce the negative effects of untreated mental illness.

 
 
  • Youth Mental Health First Aid is a 6-7hr certified training and is instructed by a certified YMHFA Instructor. A skill-based training which helps you understand mental health in youth (ages 6-18) who may also be developing a substance use problem and to identify the signs.

    This ALGEE certification gives you the proper tools to help connect our youth to the appropriate resources and treatments.

    The course introduces common mental health challenges for youth, reviews typical adolescent development, and teaches ALGEE, a 5-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations.

    Topics covered include anxiety, depression, substance use, disorders in which psychosis may occur, disruptive behavior disorders (including AD/HD), and eating disorders.

    Must be 18 and over to register.

    Registration

  • tMHFA is 4.5 hr training and is instructed by a certified tMHFA Instructor. Training course is completed within 1-2 weeks. Youth must be 15-18 years old.

    Teens learn how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges in their friends and peers.

    The course covers:

    Common signs and symptoms of mental health and substance use challenges.

    Common signs and symptoms of a mental health crisis, particularly suicide.

    The impact of school violence and bullying on mental health.

    How to open the conversation about mental illnesses and substance use with friends.

    How to seek the help of a responsible and trusted adult.

Suicide Prevention

Learn about suicide, how you can prevent it, and get the youth the professional support they need. The Youth Mental Health First Aid Training will give you the skills to make a suicide risk assessment, and a 5-step action plan that will guide you through supporting the youth until they are connected to a mental health professional.
